i am listening to one of my recentlly created mixes right now and it’s hitting a real nice groove. i forget the last time i’ve made a mix that had such a nice mellow but yet a hopeful vibe. i had intented to mix it exlusively for a certain someone but i am liking it too much to want to share with the other peeps. it’s pretty challenaging to create a great mix and so sometimes i don’t bother to try because it does require so much effort. obviously it was super more effort in the old days when you had to make a tape and listen to each song to it’s entirely. now, it’s just pick and burn and burn mutiple copies no less. still, it doesn’t take away from the art of the mix. a good mix should inspire, educate and suprise the listener. it’s a tall order and maybe i will get one out of three if i am lucky. considering the amount of time i spend on it. i mostly focus on the education (introducing people to new bands) but maybe when i have more time (don’t count on it), i can inspire (enroll) my fellow listeners. given my daily consumption of music (i would guess around 5 different ‘genres’ and 200 some odd songs), it’s hard to process all the stuff that is out there. presently, i am at an addictively state of being where i am acquiring so much more music than i can process. it’s bad for my karma but maybe my saving grace is sharing it with others so that they can make the world a better place.
