there are a few occasions such as tonight that i wish that i could have been an architect. it seems that as i learn more about the process and theories around it, i am more intrigue by the challenages it presents to the seeker. tonight’s documentary was on loius kahn, a relatively obscure but influential architect way before my time. even though the documentary wasn’t so much about his architecture but his son’s quest to find out about his father. still, some of the last interviews in the documentary were pretty inspiring. i totally understand where these people that respected him as an architect was coming from as opposed to his family and american collegeous. the embodiement of his philososphy was more in tune with eastern thought process and hence two of his most spectular buildings were in india and bandaldesh. I particular like IM Pei’s quote on the qaulity of a a man work being so more important than number of the work he produces. certainly, you need more than one to be go beyond the one hit wonder and what’s amazing was how late in his life it took for his vision to manifest into the physical. and so we are must persist against the grain of banality and have faith in ourselves. and when the times when we are finally absolve of shortcomings and resolve of our purpose, we must not waste anytime mending the fences of suburbia.
